you might of heard
of the greek gods, the fight between the olympians and titans, or the victorious adventures of the heroes. just myths to broaden the imagination, right? though this might just alter the very way you are living, you are so very wrong. the greek legends are more than real, they have everything to do with your everyday life; maybe a bit too much.
so much time up in mount olympus leaves the gods restless to touch earth, to once again walk among the mortals. some come down to brush their fingertips across the grass, others to have some fun. they knock up a few mortals, or get pregnant for three month before popping out a baby. they carelessly leave these half-mortal children on the doorsteps of houses. the kids, called demigods, grew up without ever knowing who their true parents were. sometimes, though, they'd get lucky; the mother wasn't a whore or cold-hearted, but had instead been in love with the god. they kept their demigod child, fully knowing what they truly were. after a few months of hanging around the earth, the olympians eventually went back to where they belong. in another decade they'd be back and continue on the pattern.
the demigods grew up all over the place, splattered across the world map at random. they grew up like any other kid, learning how to ride the bike and write their names. sure, a few fire hazards here and there, but generally the norm for mortals. as they started to grew into adolescence, starting as early as twelve, their mood patterns and grades began to shift. angry outbursts, random rushes of emotion, glaring headaches, self destructive behavior, "i hate you" attitude. it began getting serious enough for the parents to consider boarding school; that was when they got a blue stamped pamphlet.
so while this has been happening for the past millennium or so, it wasn't long before the government noticed the people with inhuman abilities. like hungry coyotes they tried to find as many demigods they could get their clutches around; they would drag them back to the lab, repeatedly telling them how they were so wonderful to help the society. some gave in, some fought, some were too afraid to even mutter a word as the scientists injected fluids into their systems and took very large doses of their DNA. the gods were, of course, angry; they showed their anger by making the skies cry and the earth shake, yet of course the government thought nothing of it. many lives were lost while testing, and more were taken when they began to collect normal babies and toddlers to be injected with the chemicals they created. the demigods were released with a few horrid memories, many still in shock. two thousand children were brought in and only around five hundred survived the injections; it was kept from the public, for such an uproar would create chaos for the united states. the now superhumans were given back to families and orphanages, warning the guardians of the fact that they needed a special supplement of liquid chemicals and that they were not normal. oh, so far from it. they stopped in 1997, though the harm was done.
so let's get back to the pamphlets that both demigods and the unnaturals received; it described their symptoms perfectly, full of beautiful scenic pictures and promising words. it was a year round boarding school called thaedeus, even mentioning that they gave full scholarships for talented students. the only thing the pamphlet forgot to mention was the fact that they only accepted the children of the gods and their scientifically enhanced mimics. it all seemed too perfect and wonderful, almost unbelievable. regular parents with regular children came, only to be declined with a "we are sorry but your child does not meet the circumstances of being accepted at thaedeus boarding school".
they were ecstatic whenever they got a demigod interested, them answering the questions and showing signs of their immortal parent. with a glad smile they would send them home, and soon after the family would receive a acceptance letter. seven days later the teens would pack their bags and fly a plane to washington state in the US, coming down upon the area of Puget Sound. there they asked for a taxi or rode a bus to Lotus Ave. where thaedues sat secluded. they would be split up into houses, then into tables; why, they asked. so, as a speech, the head of the school explained to them what they were, why they were here, and who their parent was. the superhumans knew what they were, so they'd sit there quietly, outcasts, as the mistress spoke about the demigods. when she introduced them, every year an awkward silence would hang, broken by a cough or "well,". of course, most didn't believe at first; not until they brought in the Pegasus. after that they lived in a world of myths, taking unusual classes about battle training and the history of greek creatures. they acted like any teenagers would; hormonal and fairly love sick.
it is just not a good idea to pair up the daughter of poseidon and son of athena, but love happens. the gods would grow angry with such love affairs, and they would let their children know. some came down to give a talk, others just struck their child's lover with lightening. everyone has their tactics. the teens fight over each other, with each other, against each other; and the result in such is not usually a good one, considering the immense power running through their veins. the unnaturals, superhumans, fakes - whatever you call them, they're outcasts. they're out of the great story. they're the things that killed so many babies and so many demigods in testing. is it their fault? of course not. does that mean that they're not to be blamed? of course not. and it's the thought that runs every day through their minds; why can't i be normal? the days wear thin, the air thick with the promise of something great about to happen...but what?
