PLAY BYsummer glau
HAIR COLOR/STYLE
thea has simple, brunette locks that cascade down her mid-back in loose waves. she has a bad habit of keeping it in a rather unkempt little mess or tying her waves into a messy bun atop her head. during the summer, or whenever she's home visiting her father, her hair gleams with natural golden highlights.
EYE COLOR
a deep, rich, hazel brown. thea's eyes are part of the way she expresses herself. many have described her as being doe-eyed or wide-eyed. she's one of those people whose emotions seep from within out into the world. when she's sad or scared, her eyes betray her. when she's angry or confident, her eyes are her greatest asset.
BODY TYPE
thea stands on the shorter side at about 5'2. she has a grace about her that can seem daunting to others. she's got that natural dancer's body and that shows in her every movement. some of her flaws are the plethora of freckles that are spotted about miscellaneous parts of her. she's covered in a variety of strangely shaped scars. and her posture is somewhat uptight and strict.
FACIAL FEATURES
thea is notorious for making strange faces at people. she's a very expressive woman and it's hard to hide what she feels. her face is slightly squarish, but not to any extreme degree. thea has wide, oval eyes and a slight astigmatism. she wears thick rimmed glasses from time to time, but mostly wears contacts. she doesn't want slipping glasses to interfere with her dancing. she has well-groomed eye-brows, being a los angeles native.
CLOTHING STYLE
callanthea king has a love for fashion that she doesn't really talk about. she adores vintage styling as well as more elegant apparel. she's also a big fan of bright, vibrant colors. with her darker hair, she can really pull off shades of reds and blues. despite never having a date, she actively participates in whatever events she can snag an invite to and isn't afraid to dress boldly. on a daily basis though, thea sticks to more simple clothes. she loves her jeans and dance clothes. yoga pants and leggings make up a good portion of her dresser drawers. she wears a lot of loose things, kind of hiding her body away. it's not because she's insecure, she just feels more comfortable in loose fitting things. whenever she's in seattle for school, she wears a lot of long-sleeves. she gets cold easily so, the sleeve length helps. during workouts, she wears hoodies, but in general, she likes cardigans more. she also adores styled wool coats or any kind of outerwear that makes a statement. thea believes that walking down the street can be a first impression. if she's in workout clothes making that impression, then people will know she's a dancer. the rest of the time, she wants them to remember her in her bright red coat with a floppy little hat or something else catching.
unless she's going out somewhere, callanthea sticks to more comfortable footwear. she likes her sneakers and her flats. she loves moccasins and boots as well. when she does go to an event or out somewhere else equally fancy, she'll strap on some gorgeous heels that remind everyone she's a los angeles girl.
for jewelry, thea loves to stick with that same vintage theme. she also loves anything symbolic of her as a person. charm bracelets, lockets, compasses, etc. she's a big fan of anything that whispers a secret to whoever notices it. that's thea's style.
in terms of makeup, thea goes for a somewhat simple approach. she loves eye makeup and chapstick. she's big on healthy products and she keeps after her complexion obsessively. she has healthy skin only because she can't deal with it being any other way.

LIKES• dancing

• sunday morning funnies
• nostalgia
DISLIKES• mean people
• mythology
• asparagus
• chewing gum
ADVANTAGES• individuality - has always been able to center herself and remember who she is. doesn't feel any need to try and be like others. she is callanthea and that's all that she needs to be.
• discipline - both deriving from a government affiliated father and being an avid dancer growing up. discipline is one of thea's greatest advantages.
• humor - despite the fact that creates a generally depressing aura around her, thea has a vast sense of humor. she gets the small and petty thing as well as the dark humor. she understands dry humor and cynical humor. she's a young woman of many laughs, whether deserved or not.
• optimism - a desperate seeker of the bright side. she can't snag a first kiss without killing but she still manages to enjoy cheesy romantic comedies. thea tries to find the good in others, even if they're hell-bent on hating her.
DISADVANTAGES• extremities - thea is a very big person in terms of what she feels. it may have more to do with her background than anything, but she has such passion for life. and that can be a major disadvantage when it comes to viewing things skeptically or dealing with any kind of life changing decisions. her extremities generally bring out the worst in her.
• shyness - since she was a child, callanthea has been shy and socially awkward. making friends doesn't come naturally to her, but she still manages to do it. her shy side comes out the most whenever she's around someone she doesn't know well. she's prone to stuttering over her words and saying all the wrong things.
• love - love, in general, is thea's greatest flaw and weakness. she loves so strongly, that she becomes willing to defend people who may or may not deserve it. the care she has for her father, her biological parents, her friendships... it's this intense, burning thing. it scares people away and it makes them wonder how she can possibly contain it all.
• stubbornness - if she gets an idea in her head, that's generally where it stays. there's not much going back after callanthea king has decided.
PERSONALITY
callanthea is an eternal optimist. there's a brilliance about the construction of her mind that draws people in. she's very bright, but also very shy. there's a certain poetry about her, a secret that no one can seem to figure out. for some people, this trait makes her annoying and they don't want anything to do with her. for others, it becomes a lifelong quest and friendship.
callanthea has always had trouble talking to people. she finds it easier to write things down or, better yet, dance them. it's in her dancing that callanthea's true self is revealed. her lifelong passion has been her only true way to tell anyone what she feels.
callanthea is easily frustrated and can be quite rude. it all roots back to her difficulties in expressing things. she always seems to say the wrong thing at the right time and that pushes people away. it's a special type of failure that callanthea, as much as she tries, just can't seem to stop.
individualized, callanthea has a strong sense of self-awareness. she doesn't feel a need to be too much like anyone else, even if they're attempting to pressure her into doing so. callanthea has always known who she is, she just can't seem to let others know who she is.
slightly obsessive and very disciplined. whether it comes down to her sanitary habits or her dance routines, callanthea runs of schedules, lists, and plans. she probably couldn't live without a plan. it makes you wonder what would happen if someone overly spontaneous came into her life.
stubborn and specific. thea is extremely stubborn. it was hell for her adoptive father during her teenage years. but she evens that out with a sense of moral stability. she knows the difference between right and wrong and won't stubbornly hold strong to something unless it's for the better of a situation. that backfires when she doesn't know the whole story about something though. poor thea's been in that position more than once.
dark. being a mimic of thanatos isn't exactly doing her any favors. thea's depressing demeanor can scare even the kindest of people away. she literally cannot help what she is.
disturbed. for more reasons than her special little gift with the dead. thea has a very deep and peculiar mind. the depths of which have yet to be fully explored. callanthea is afraid to sleep at night because of the things her mind conjures up for her. it's a scary place, the inside of thea's head.
childish. there's something quite childish about callanthea that comes out from time to time. it's in the way she laughs, the way she draws people in. it's almost as if she's summoning them to ask for their help when she's certainly not a damsel in distress.
intense. years of dance and military training make callanthea a very dangerous and very intense human being. she's not the type of girl who people want to pick a physical fight with. she's not one to fight though. it's not in her original make up. she's quite peaceful. but when pushed to a limit, callanthea has a wrath that few want to see released.
hopeless. beneath all of her optimism and the levels of her personality is a hopelessness that has been part of her since she was a mere baby. it's something she guards and hides with fierce protectiveness. vulnerability, to thea, is weakness. and weakness, to her father, is unacceptable.

FATHERcallanthea's birth father's name was edgar philippe jane. her adoptive father is named samson james king.
OLYMPIAN MIMICthanatos
SIBLINGScallanthea's biological brother was named charlie edgar jane. he was two years older than thea.
PETthea has a chipper little beagle named sookie that she keeps at home in los angeles. her dad often puts sookie on web-cam for thea to say hello to while thea is away at school.
WEALTH STATUSsamson king is a very wealthy government official. callanthea king is a poor college student who isn't as spoiled as she wishes she was. she works at starbucks and her dad pays her tuition though so, she gets off pretty easy. he makes an effort to remind her to work hard and make her own money though.
HISTORY
the janes were a perfect family. edgar jane was a carpenter and had helped build a good number of their small texas town's buildings. charlotte jane was a secretary at the town's elementary school. they were good, church-going types. they were the kind of people that looked out for their neighbors and took care of those around them. when they gave birth to their first child, a baby boy named charlie, their family was celebrated. the only thing that could possibly make their life any better was a daughter. but, you know what they say, be careful what you wish for because you might just get it. that was exactly what happened with the janes. they got what they wished for and they weren't prepared for any flaws, mishaps, or confusion along the way.
two weeks into her pregnancy, charlotte knew something was wrong. her body felt wrong, she was more erratic, even by the normal standards for pregnancy hormones. she couldn't hold down food and was constantly becoming ill. her head had this constant aching that just wouldn't go away. and then, there were the nightmares. she couldn't ever remember them. but they would wake her in the dead of the night screaming, drenched in sweat, and pale as a ghost. charlotte probably should have gotten an abortion and saved herself the trouble, but she knew god wouldn't approve of that. so she braved the storm in hopes that her beautiful baby girl would be worth all that trouble.
callanthea was born into the world dead. she literally died for a few brief moments before the doctors were able to revive the tiny little thing she was. and when charlotte jane held her baby girl for the first time, she nearly dropped the fragile creature. for when charlotte looked into the baby's eyes, she saw a terrible monster within. it couldn't be explained, the reaction charlotte had. it was unreal. the doctor's said they needed to keep callanthea in the hospital for longer than charlotte needed to stay. in truth, they kept callanthea there because they were afraid charlotte was going through severe post-partem depression. they didn't want her to do anything dramatic and hurt the infant. they also advised her husband to take responsibility for any other children in the home and to monitor his wife's behaviors and emotions.
those first few days can sometimes mean the world to a family. callanthea missed a very important bonding time. and her mother never tried to fill the gap. the doctors managed to keep callanthea in the hospital for the entire first month of her life due to malnutrition issues. charlotte's eating habits had significantly damaged her child. during that month, charlotte came to visit callanhea a grand total of three times. edgar was the one who came to see his baby girl each day. he tried, very hard, to care about this child that his wife wanted nothing to do with. in truth, edgar jane could have very well been a good person, for all callanthea knew.
callanthea only lived with the janes until she turned three. the first three years of her childhood were littered with emotional abuse and neglect. edgar was the one who took care of her. charlotte hated her daughter. she couldn't stand to look at her, no less feed her or wash her or make sure she was changed. charlotte blamed callanthea for everything bad that came into their life. they lost friends due to charlotte's neurotic approach toward callanthea. charlotte began calling callanthea the devil's creature. she was convinced that the little girl was cursed to doom their family.
it took callanthea longer to develop than most small children. she spoke very little and had next to no educational influence. the only thing callanthea really had was a vivid imagination and an early adoration for dance. by age three, she had begun talking just enough to have conversations with herself. she said whimsical little things in her girly little voice. charlotte made a habit of listening to callanthea's every word. charlotte decided that the devil was speaking through her daughter. charlotte knew that they only way to cleanse their family of this devil child was to sin. the only way to save them all and protect their son was to kill callanthea.
it was three in the morning when charlotte snatched her toddler from bed and strapped her into a car-seat in the mini van. as soon as the engine started, edgar woke up. he rushed down to stop charlotte, but couldn't make it in time. he grabbed the phone, woke the neighbors and asked them to watch charlie, and then he got in his pickup truck and went after charlotte. he found her car parked in the middle of the town's only bridge. there she was, holding callanthea's hand in her own, standing on the edge of the bridge, ready to jump and drag thea down with her. edgar moved toward the pair slowly, cautiously.
"lottie, come here sweetie. we're gonna make this all better." edgar murmured in a loving but horrified tone.
"i will make it better. i will cleanse us of the devil's hold. i will heal us. help me eddie. save me so i don't die with the demon child." charlotte begged him. edgar knew that callanthea was not a demon child. edgar knew that charlotte was merely a very sick woman who had refused to get herself better. but he also knew he could only really reach one of them in time if charlotte wanted to jump and callanthea was further away than charlotte. he would save his wife, his love, before his daughter.
edgar stepped forward quickly, in an attempt to catch charlotte off-guard and get them both down off the ledge. charlotte noticed and she pushed callanthea forward. the only thing that stopped her was a man, all dressed in black, who had come from the shadows on a catwalk just below the bridge. he caught a screaming little three-year-old callanthea and saved her life. that was how samson james king came to know callanthea.
samson had been in the government for a very long time. he specialized in working with unnaturals and observing demi-gods. he had been in texas for work. it was while he was there that he came to know charlotte jane and learned of her strange hatred for her daughter. samson took an interest, thinking that something like this might happen. he had been right. and callanthea was put up for adoption because of her unfit parents.
from the moment he had caught her on the bridge, samson had become attached to callanthea. he had saved her life thinking that he would use the child for work, and came to love her as his own instead. while he waited for the adoption process to finish, he was her foster father. from the moment her mother tried to kill her, callanthea was samson's. and edgar jane took a cowardly approach. he practically gave callanthea away. he knew it would be easier to try and fix charlotte if callanthea was completely out of the picture. he wanted it to be like his daughter had never existed. and they janes got their second wish. callanthea was gone.
as soon as it was legally possible, samson moved callanthea with him back to his home in los angeles. out in the hollywood hills lay samson's high-tech home where he made up a frilly pink bedroom for his daughter. callanthea found the family that wanted her. samson cared for her more than the janes ever had. and part of callanthea's childhood self knew that. her earliest memories belonged in texas, with the janes. and she was always thankful to be samson's daughter.
she was still three years old when they performed the procedure to make her an unnatural. samson, while against it in the beginning, had known this day would come. that was the original reason he had ended up taking callanthea, after all, so she could be "donated" for their project. he hadn't told the government he loved the child, that he genuinely cared about her well-being and didn't want her to become something strange and abnormal. he wanted callanthea to have a normal, beautiful life. and someone within the government found out that was what he wanted. so, they made sure he wouldn't get it.
it's easy to make enemies along the way when you work in that kind of setting. samson had stumbled across just the wrong enemy when he'd irked the man who chose for callanthea to receive the mimic abilities of a child of thanatos. one enmy made sure that callanthea's life would be significantly harder. one enemy had made sure that callanthea wouldn't love her first love without an immediate death to follow. one enemy had made sure that callanthea would bring sadness and sorrow in her wake everywhere that she went.
but samson wasn't the type of man to let one enemy ruin their lives! he watched as callanthea transitioned and taught her to be happy amid all the sadness. he taught her to always look for the optimistic side of things. he taught her to be the young woman she is now. and he made a concerted effort to never, ever look at his child the way her biological mother had, with anger and regret.
in the early years, samson would try and mask the flavor of her callanthea's little "energy" drink to make it easier on her. he gave her almost anything she wanted. he put her through the extensive la dance classes that she begged to be part of. he bought her a guinea pig, a goldfish, and a puppy. he made sure she was content, even if it meant spoiling her for a period of time, because he just wanted to see that smile on her face. he wanted to see her happy.
samson was also tremendously protective of callanthea. he home-schooled her all the way into her teenage years. when she was younger, she was entrusted only into the care of a highly certified nanny and even then, samson made sure the woman was someone who could work well with thea. the girl was so sheltered because samson was afraid of anything happening to her.
by age fourteen, callanthea realized that the sheltering would affect the rest of her life. she needed to tap into some kind of independence, some freedom. so, she sat her father down and told him how she felt. and he actually agreed with her. he couldn't keep her stowed away in a padded room all her life. she had to go out and live. and she was at a good enough age that she could find her way. so, he did some research through work. he found thaedeus and told callanthea that she could spend her high school education there.
the odd part for thea was that she was already so ahead in all of her studies. the time spent homeschooling pretty much set her up for college early on. and she was tremendously bright in other aspects as well. it was the social dynamic that completely and utterly baffled thea. she had no idea how to really get along with people. she'd only had one friend back in la and these people were very different than the ones she was accustomed to. the other students were so gifted. they had their abilities and then, even the humans seemed like a puzzle that thea would never be able to solve.
she spent most of her socialization time hiding away in different nooks and crannies, reading or writing. her teachers knew she of her intelligence, but also knew she needed to ease her small anxieties. it took her months to stop shaking whenever she was called on in a class.
even the fighting arts came to her quickly. her father had trained her as a child in fencing and karate and wrestling, but this was a place where she could challenge other people her age. she bloomed before the eyes of her instructors. she couldn't beat any demi-gods of unnaturals who had gotten their skills through other means, but thea tried to match them constantly. this earned respect from some of the other student, although they still didn't seem to take to her well.
the one thing callanthea truly loved about school was the auditorium. she spent any time that she could on that stage in front of an empty room working pieces she had assembled. she felt more comfortable on the stage than she did in front of the mirrors in a dance classroom. she came to life through her dancing and the stage was the home she found.
through her senior year, she applied to the university in seattle. she felt as if she'd rooted herself to the area well enough and didn't want to make another big change in the future. she didn't want to go all the way across the country to go to school and she genuinely liked seattle. she liked the weather and the people and the shops. the university seemed lively enough and she could receive a decent education. her grades permitted her to go and she received a partial scholarship through her dancing so that her father wouldn't have to pay her way entirely.
her first year at university seemed worse than high school. she realized how lonely she was. friendships were such a difficult feat for her. so, being her slightly awkward self, she went into the library and started studying social development on her own. thea literally went and taught herself how to act around others. she learned to ease up and, over time, she started to meet people. they became drawn to her easy-adapted nature. no one realized how forced it was. they didn't see the anxieties turning through her. they didn't know her past or how things were for her. and as soon as someone seemed too far plunged into her thanatos induced depression, she gave people space. this was her insurance policy. she wanted to keep her friends, not scare them off with sadness.
that brings us here now. thea is twenty-years-old and is still in attendance at her university. she has yet to offer anyone her first and unforgivable kiss. but she's come a long way from the socially awkward child who was home-schooled until her senior year. life is at her fingertips and she's ready to challenge the world around her. she plans to go into the publishing industry and work as a dance teacher on the side.- - - as you worry about the sins of your past - - -
