Ice. Cream?
Samantha saw so many different flavours. She hadn't been around town so much, even though she had been here for so long. Staring down at the delicacies through the double glass, it was making her mouth water. Sure, She had seen ice cream before, but the way they set it out with all those bright colors. It was driving the poor girl crazy.
It was at times like these where being indecisive sucked.
She finally stared down the chocolate long enough to decide on that one. Her long locks were kept at bay by a hair straightener that morning, so for once this week, the auburn curls would stay night and straight enough for her not to have to swish it over one shoulder.
There had been a few familiar faces around town that afternoon, but Samantha had steered clear of them. If it was anything that really got on her nerves, it was couples. She didn't understand the art of 'love' at all. For one, what's the point in staying committed to one person if you're going to break up eventually? The thought never clicked with Samantha.
Pushing the thoughts from her head, Samantha paid the blonde at the counter and went off on her way, loving the taste of the chocolate on her tongue. A good choice after all. The walk back to her room in the school was a long one, but it was well worth it. Samantha hadn't enjoyed Ice cream for a while, and she missed it. It had been a child-hood favorite of hers long forgotten when she joined Thaeses.
Another terrible habit of Samanthas had just reared its ugly head when she saw a certain familiar face. It was Jon, a cute guy who had graduated from the school. She made her way up to him, knowing the two had shared a few conversations back when he was in school. Her bow shaped lips curved up into a half smile before taking another lick from her ice cream. "Why hello stranger. Fancy seeing you here."

]Since when had summer been so unbearably hot? Probably ever other year before, but each time it felt so new, and so terrible. Seattle was supposed to bring rain and cool breezes from the ocean, but in the city, amid the towering buildings, or in the stretching parklands, it was like a huge incubator, smog holding in the heat. At least at Thaedeus, the grounds were lush and well kept, so that the summer sun was just something bright in the sky, instead of a weight bearing down on them, turning the grass brown and brittle while heat radiated up from the pavement.
It wasn't too unusual, however, for someone who usually spent the day sleeping, resting up for a night shift, to feel somewhat cowed by the return to normalcy.
Jon had stopped on one of the more high-end streets that boasted gourmet food joints and the store-fronts that sat behind huge glimmering windows of everything he could probably only buy if he gave up a few weeks worth of eating. He eventually gave up looking into each window- most of them were just clothing stores anyway, and what he had suited him just fine. Despite his obvious discomfort in the heat, he still wore a long sleeved shirt- at least it wasn't his usual black hoodie. The sleeves were rolled up, the rest of it unbuttoned to reveal a gray t-shirt that was just tight enough to hint that there was muscle there. His hair was just growing long enough for his bangs to flop forward onto his forehead, before he ran a hand back through his hair with a sigh. This week had been...interesting, to say the least. And now he couldn't sleep, and had taken to wandering the city, far from his run-down apartment, trying to distract himself-
"Why hello stranger. Fancy seeing you here."
His brows shot up, and he only half-turned at first, until he caught sight of the girl walking a short way behind him, obviously looking at him. "Hey," He couldn't help one corner of his mouth twitching up in a confused smile. He definitely recognized her from his time at Thaedeus-he was fairly sure they had even talked before-but he played it cool. "It's Sam, right?" He turned around fully, hands in his pockets to look down at her with that same slightly bemused expression.

Recognition at first from the guy was a little shady. He had remembered her of course, but probably wasn't expecting her to just waltz up to him like she had and talk to him. He hadn't blown her off, so that equaled to brownie points for her, anyway.
"Sam, Right?" She nodded as he spoke her nick name. She had always preferred Sam to Samantha, but in another way, Sam was a bit boyish too. It wasn't some thing to spend all day on though, there was a cute guy in front of her.
"Bingo. And Your Jon, Graduated, right?" She copied his confused expression and speech, but laughed a little after she had spoken to clarify her joking manner. She had absently almost finished the chocolate ice cream in her hand, but she continued to look at Jon before running her slender fingers through her hair. "So what brings you here anyway, Jon?" He too nodded, relieved that he hadn't messed up- then again, it was hard to forget a face like Sam's. She was...a daughter of Hera, right? She was a demi-goddess, he knew that much. Better to walk on the safe side and put it out of mind.
"So what brings you here anyway, Jon?"
"Well, I uh, live in the area," He pointed over his shoulder, not really committing to any place in particular. He wasn't lying...he just lived a little bit farther than he was making it seem, more towards the less flashy side of town, where his run-down building sat. He glanced down at his watch; not urgently, just out of curiosity. "And according to this, I should be sleeping right now. But I can't so..." He shrugged, turning to stand alongside her, content to walk wherever she was on her way to. Raising a hand to shade his eyes, he took a sidelong look at her, a bit stumped as to why she hadn't simply passed him by in the first place. Back when he had attended school, before he had been able to control his powers, his presence could send anyone nearby into depression. But now that he had some concept of how to 'turn it off' so to speak, people would crop up here and there, where before...well, there had only been Scarlet. But that wasn't the really baffling part. No, the confusion came with the person in particular. As far as he could tell, this girl could probably have whatever she wanted in the blink of an eye- he couldn't pretend that she wasn't attractive enough to get away with it. And what did they have in common? What was she getting out of talking to him? Maybe she was lonely. Or bored enough to talk to that weird kid who used to go to her school. With a mental shrug, he forced it out of his mind. He didn't have anything better to do than to talk anyway.
"Are you heading back to the school?" He suddenly asked, recognizing some of the nearest streets while they walked. Reluctance entered his voice- there were people to avoid there. "And wait," He slowed, wary of getting too ahead of himself. "Shouldn't you be on summer vacation or something, away from school?" It wasn't in the least bit accusing; his grin said that much, but he realized a bit late as it faltered that the question was a bit personal. For all he knew, she could have been on of the many orphans that the school took in.

Samantha nodded when he answered her question on why he was here. But.. Sleeping? Her brows pulled together in confusement. It was, what? Six at night? The fact that aparently he was to be asleep at this moment confused her. She smirked a little, her voice in a type that she would talk to a cute animal. "Does little Jonny need his nap? Or do you just have an early beddy by time?"
She grinned at him, bursting into giggles. She was easily amused by her own antics, but the fact that he 'needed to sleep' at this early hour in the evening humoured her. She had finished her ice cream, and her thumb was still covered in drops of melted ice cream. She stuck her thumb in her mouth quickly, getting the remainder of chocolate off from the pad of her thumb. She took her thumb out and stuck her hand in her pocket, looking back at Jon as he started talking again.
He stumbled over his words a little when he questioned why she wasn't out of here yet. Her family would probably faint if they saw her show up at their house after a good three years of being under the radar. Samantha knew the control she had over people, she could 'convince' anyone to do whatever she wanted them to do. It was odd, all she had to do was speak firmly with them and they would comply to her wishes. Samantha enjoyed power, it made her feel superior.
"My family kind of disowned me when they saw me convince a girl to stand in front of a truck. I guess i'll just be hanging here for Summer. What's your excuse?" She retorted the question back at him, one fair brow of hers lifting in curiosity. It was a sensitive subject, asking some one whether they had a family to go home with, but he had started it, so she wanted his excuse for still being here too.

Jon snorted, shaking his head at her obvious amusement. "Nah, I just work nights," He tilted his head back to squint up at the sky again. "Guess I need to get out more, and work on my tan." He laughed quietly, holding out his arms as if to compare the colour. When he looked over to get some sort of feedback, she was busy getting the chocolate off her hands, looking as innocent as could be.
"My family kind of disowned me when they saw me convince a girl to stand in front of a truck. I guess I'll just be hanging here for Summer. What's your excuse?"
He raised his brows, less out of surprise, and more out of acceptance of her reasons. It sounded kind of messed up, but a lot of the kids at Thaedeus had bad blood with their families because of their powers, and more often than not, there was some terrible incident involved. Though it was still fairly shocking to hear.
"We're in the same boat then. My folks don't want me back- and besides, I think I was always going to stick around in Seattle anyways." Sam seemed just a little offended that he had dared to ask her something like that, and though he knew that he wasn't being that forthcoming with information, he was reluctant to really get into it. Sure, gossip spread when he was at school, but his privacy was fairly well protected. Then again...what could be worse than asking someone to get in front of a moving truck?
"I...lost my temper and messed with someone, and they totally overreacted," He gestured to his face, smiling despite the darker nature, and at his eyes in particular, before remembering that maybe she didn't know his background. "The whole Erebos mimicry didn't go over well." Shrugging, he turned over her earlier reply. At least now he knew he was right in thinking she was a descendant of Hera- who held grudges? He wondered what the girl had done to deserve Sam's powers, but he wasn't about to ask. Some things were better left alone.
He had to sudden desire to say something about school- that he had plans (even when he didn't) and didn't just spend his time alone in an apartment (even though that's exactly what he did when he wasn't working) it just set a bad precedent. But now, with thoughts of how far he'd come from Thaedeus, to where he was now, he couldn't stop his thoughts from straying toward his ex-girlfriend. Even more overwhelming was the urge to ask Sam if she knew her- but one look at the blond licking ice-cream from her fingers was enough to convince him that they probably didn't run in the same circles- so he held his tongue.

"Guess I need to get out more, and work on my tan."[/i]
Samantha raised her eyebrows a little, looking at his not-so-fair skin before looking at her own fair skin which was looking pretty flawless tonight in the street light, that was beginning to twitch on above them as the sky paled to a purple and orange mixture. It was gorgeous, and at the sight of it, Sam smiled.
As she watched Jon's reaction to her story on how she ended up at this place, and why she wasn't going home for summer, she smiled sadly. She loved having a family, Christmas morning and all that mushy crap. It was important to her for all that to be a sort of tradition. She had friends, but that didn't exactly replace her bloodlines like she wanted them to do so badly. Looking to Jon there, a smile on his face, made her think of all the guys and girls that had families. It was an odd feeling, and she didn't like the way it churned around in her stomach.
"Oh yeah, Looking quite Pasty there!" Samantha pulled the smile back onto her face, giggling a little as she put both her hands into her pockets, not really knowing what else to do with them. "We're in the same boat then. My folks don't want me back- and besides, I think I was always going to stick around in Seattle anyway." So he wasn't just another kid who had problems, he wasn't wanted by his family either. A frown formed on Samantha's plump lips, feeling suddenly guilty for jumping to conclusions like she had so quickly.
"That's sad to hear, But it's cool that your staying here. I guess we could get to know each other a lot better." Flirting, a humans way of saying "Hey! I'm kind of into you!" Samantha added a flirtatious smile as she spoke, letting her words roll of her tongue like she had a million times. She wasn't a floozy or anything, but she found the guy attractive, so why not see if he felt the same too?

There was something satisfying about having his jokes laughed at, even though they were dorky beyond belief. At least he didn't seem to be boring her- that was a relief. As he explained himself to her, her expression seemed to soften; apparently the damage wasn't too bad to her impression of him. Another good sign. "That's sad to hear, But it's cool that your staying here. I guess we could get to know each other a lot better." Alright, so he wasn't so much of an outcast that he missed the little smile she shot his way, but it was still pleasantly surprising, even if he did feel a bit guilty for what he was about to do. "Oh yeah? Maybe you'd want to hang out some time," He shrugged non-commitally, though his grin gave it away. {I'm so sorry this is such a crappy post I will do better next time}

"Oh yeah? Maybe you'd want to hang out some time,"
Samantha raised her eyebrows a little when he some-what agreed, but not entirely. She was used to having things exactly when she wanted them, and not having to work for them. Her raised eyebrows were matched with a smile though, she was happy that he would.. possibly, like to 'hang out' with her at some point in time.
"Oh Yeah, For sure. When are you free?" Samantha asked him, cutting straight to the point. She knew that his lack of enthusiasm was a mere joke, and there was humour dancing in his eyes, which made her smile. She knew that he had an ex girl friend back at the school, whenever the two ran together at track, she would some times mention him. Odd, that she was flirting with him.
Not that she cared anyway.
For the third time that night, Samantha ran her fingers through her hair. She couldn't stand it when her hair fell from its position behind her forehead, and it was hard to keep that way, it being past her shoulder blades in length. She was enjoying herself with Jon, even though he seemed a little bit closed off and all, but most people with a lot of baggage did, and face it, most people did at where she was from.

He wasn't going to pretend that he wasn't flattered by the attention, but there was still that voice in the back of the mind that left him unsettled. So what if the girl flirted with him? He didn't have to marry her or something, and he wasn't disrespecting Scarlet since, if they weren't a couple they were still...something.
He could still hang out with a girl. He'd just have to watch his step, because from what he could tell, even the loveliest of faces had powers that would be difficult to stop. None of his own were a counter effect to Hera's passed down genetics. She could...say...ask him to walk in front of a truck, which apparently works. Still, there was only so much seriousness that he could stand in a day. He needed a chance to unwind, pretend he was normal.
As they walked, and the sky darkened, he thought he could see the lights of Thaedeus' drive up ahead. He was suddenly apprehensive, hands in his pockets as he squinted at the outline of the building. "Maybe we could catch a movie sometime?" He glanced over, before cracking a smile, nodding toward the school. "I'd say I'd meet you here, but I'm doing my best to avoid any unpleasantness." His brows creased; what sort of teenager used 'unpleasantness'?
