fucking rain. it was never ending. it fell in sleets of icy drops, landing on the ground and almost instantly freezing over. it was worse than snow, and that was certainly saying something. delilah lovett knew that the weather reports were true as soon as the power went out sometime around four am; the whole house was silent for a few moments, before delilah yelled out "are you fucking kidding me?" to then be followed by irritated hushes. mumbling, the nymph had stumbled from her bed and walked tiredly out of their room and to the second floor bathroom. delilah ignored the loud "really? you're taking a shower right now?" as she turned the water to high and stripped down. "yep!" she yelled back, running a brush through her thick hair before getting in. if it was one thing that annoyed the living shit out of her, it was washing knotty hair. as she jumped out of the shower smelling thickly of pomegranate, she swore at the cold tile under her feet as she wrapped a bright green towel around her body.

it was about four thirty by then, so she tried to be at least somewhat considerate by quietly walking back to their room. everyone was awake, it seemed; candle light shone from the crack under their doors, and several girls ran over to each other's rooms. the freshmen were especially loud and giggly, making delilah sigh loudly and swear at a particular couple next to her dorm. they flinched then hurried back into their room, closing the door behind them. "it's like they've never experienced a fucking power outage or something." the eighteen year old muttered as she blindly grabbed a pair of clothes from her drawers. "hey, you know where the candles are?" her roommate asked. she was rummaging underneath delilah's bed, as though expecting them to just be sitting there. "yeah. they're in the closet. top shelf to the right." she responded in a rusty voice.

they had these wooden panels that they could change behind, something that the two had both split for - it made life easier and less awkward. even though delilah's job was to strip and pose for people, changing in front of a roommate still seemed unseemly. privacy was needed sometimes. she ignored the drops of water that slid down her back due to her wet hair as she pulled on a bra and soon to follow underwear; the outfit she had randomly picked out felt like a short sleeved sweatshirt and, of course, jeans. she couldn't really tell, considering it was almost pitch black.

what exactly the girl was planning on doing, she had no idea. her dark hair was beginning to dry into wild locks, bangs combed straight though slightly wavy due to not being blow dried. the back of her hair was still a bit damp as she left the dorm, car keys hanging from her pocket just in case. no one asked her where she was going as she went to leave, though she got several curious looks. yawning wide, she covered her mouth as she unlocked the door and stepped out into the freezing air.

of course, it was pretty much pouring. and freezing. blinking out into the gray, deilah bit her lip and thought about what she was to do next. the cold, fresh air cleared her mind, and she was able to actively think about her situation. the first thought was to drive down to starbucks, for they'd more than likely be open - though crossed out the idea, for it might actually be closed due to bad roads.

then an idea came to mind. benjamind howard. she hadn't talked to him in fucking forever. he was pretty much the closest friend she had, though had coldly blown her off for the past three weeks. for the first few days, she was okay with it. fine, his super close twin brother died, he deserved some space. though now it was just selfish. he knew that delilah was pretty much alone without him, and it pissed her off that he continued to ignore her. huffing and puffing in her delilah-like way, the lampade began to walk briskly in the direction of chi omega with the idea of confronting him. at five thirty in the morning.

"fucking gods and your fucking freezing rain. this is just fantastic. fucking fantastic." she angrily mumbled, glaring at the ground and occasionally glancing up through water-caught lashes to make sure she was correctly dodging trees. by the time she stumbled upon the omega chi door, she was soaked. completely. pretty much growling, she made a feeble attempt to twist the knob; surprisingly, it opened. of course they'd forget to lock the door. easily slipping in silently, delilah counted to ten before moving in the direction of the stairs. the house was oddly quiet, quite the opposite of her own; while all of the girls had been awake and giggling, it seemed as though most of the guys had slept right through the power outage.

flinching every time a stair creaked under her feet, the senior finally made it to ben's room. frowning, she tried to think of a way to get to him; he was deaf, which eliminated the idea of knocking on his door. she didn't feel bad at all by freely walking in, and made sure to close the door behind her before standing there for a few moments. his room was dark. really, fucking dark. delilah realized that his windows were completely covered, not allowing even a fraction of light to come in. her breathing seemed too loud in the room, though she knew benji couldn't hear it anyway. knowing him, he'd be awake; delilah was almost positive that he’d be now. not knowing what to do now that she was there, delilah bit her lip until she tasted blood and continued to stand there. for some reason, she was unable to bring up those feelings of betrayal and anger she'd been feeling moments earlier. instead, the lampade stood there in silence by the door, heart oddly racing and breath sharp. "benjamin?" delilah said quietly, as though expecting him to hear.

Benjamin had been awake the majority of the night. He was working on his hearing prototype. It wasn't functional, of course, but once it was, he'd know by the way it picked up vibrations. He had rigged it up so even though it was outside his body, and therefore couldn't hear, it would still be able to be recognized as working by the way to small thin piece of metal vibrated against his finger as he made noise on the other side of the device.

He had sliced his fingers open multiple times on the horrible twisted springs that he had to force back into a centimetre long device that needed to go underneath his eardrum. The potential aspect of the device ripping in his ear and damaging his ear didn't appeal to him all too greatly, so he tried his best to make sure that the springs were snapped into place as tightly as they could be. He really didn't want them to tear his ear to shit. That would really fucking suck.

He had gone to bed somewhere around 2 AM, but woken up when he felt his roommate thumping around, looking for candles. Since then, he had been up and about, asking around for candles and gathering enough to light his room until the sun started to rise. Power outages were the worst. That meant he'd have to face the sun, and people, and actually socialize and be a human being. Yeah, that'd do in his current, 3-week mood. His funk was going on quite nicely. He even had a sexy scruff growing in, so he could eventually start off fresh and shave it all off and hopefully feel better about his entire current predicament. Noah would've laughed at his scruff and told him he looked like a little fucker. But Noah wasn't around. Fucking idiot. Crashing his car. Now Benjamin had a horrible fear of driving. Ever.

It really sucked, considering it was the only way for him to really get to the airport to go home for his funeral. He had walked there instead, boarded a flight, gone back to his home, paid for Noah's funeral with Noah's life savings, saved what little he had left, and flown back here, all in the past 3 weeks. He should've stayed home, but he didn't. He had come back to school to at least finish what he started, though he hadn't gotten shit all done. He was ahead anyway, so it didn't really matter, but his GPA would probably drop due to his attendance issues.

Finally settling down at his work desk, he stared at the prototype and sighed, letting his head fall to his desk, keeping his forehead pressed gently against the hard, cold surface. The heat had obviously gone out, because it was fucking freezing. He felt the vibration of the door opening with his foot and sighed, lifting his head. His eyes had adjusted to the dark, so he could see pretty clear that it was definitely not his roommate. The faint movement of the girls mouth made his sigh softly and stand up, lighting the nearest candle to him.
"Delilah?" He mumbled, tilting his head. "You're shaking." He blinked and reached out, touching her clothes. "And fucking soaked. Jesus." He grabbed her arm and tugged her over to his dresser, shoving some clothes into her arms.
"You can change while your clothes dry." He pointed to the little bathroom and motioned for her to go in.

soon her eyes had adjusted enough to the poor lighting to see him sitting at his desk, obviously passed out. however, he must of felt her walk in, for he shifted in his chair and glanced back. ”delilah?” he lit a candle then walked over, reaching out to touch her soaked-through clothes. "you're shaking. and fucking soaked. jesus." blinking, she continued to be quiet as he tugged her over to his dresser. delilah bit her lip, hard, as he handed her a fresh set of clothes; for some reason, she felt shy, and had no idea why. usually the nymph would of been walking over herself, grabbing out an outfit and complaining in a joking way about his poor manners. instead, she timidly took the clothes and continued to shiver. fucking a, it was freezing; bumps rose up on her arms, and she oddly wished for the warmth of his hands like the moment before. what the fuck? she felt stunned and rather annoyed with herself once the thought had passed without warning through her mind; it made no sense. she didn’t feel that way for him, at all. "oh, thanks. i'm pretty fucking freezing." she mumbled, glancing over at him so that he could read her lips.

doing as he indicated, she walked into the tiny sized bathroom and stripped down to nothing. even her bra and underwear were soaked and uncomfortable, though she hid them within the other clothes so that it wouldn't be obvious; awkward moments were something she tried to avoid. it was too dark to see what he gave her, though it felt like a rather large t-shirt. once it was slipped on, it went to her knees; the neck was so stretched and worn out it kept on slipping off her shoulder, making the fact that she was no longer wearing the black bra obvious. frowning, she continued to bite her lip as she examined the pants. they were sweats, as far as she could tell - blinking, she actively made the decision not to put them on and held it in the opposite hand from her wet clothes.

delilah wasn't expecting her cheeks to flare to a bright rose once she'd walked out of the bathroom; she suddenly felt rather naked, standing there. the thought that he'd seen her nude before loomed in the back of her mind as she hesitantly met his eyes, still biting her lip. it was terrible, being forced to look directly at him while she talked. "the t-shirt was pretty long, so i didn't want to get your sweats worn out for nothing." she explained, walking over to the door and placing her clothes on the floor so that she wouldn't forgot them. shoving a hand through her dark locks, delilah walked over to the dresser and placed the pants back in the drawer from where he got them. glancing over at him, she smiled lightly then leaned against the dresser. "thanks. i'm not sure what i was thinking, running up here like a fucking moron with no jacket or anything." she began, eyes on his feet. why did she feel so odd? it was benji, for fucks sake. she wasn't sure what to say, really - she was planning on coming up here to rant off to him about being an asshole, though couldn't bring herself to do it. instead, she spoke quietly and looked up to meet his eyes. "you've been ignoring me lately." was all the nymph could say.

Benjamin blinked as she walked back into the room with no pants on. He knew the clothes were too big, but Jesus... Did she have to... Ugh. He rubbed at his face sleepily and sat down on his bed, tugging on some pyjama pants so he wouldn't be in just his boxers. Next he stood up and grabbed her clothes, separating them all. Great, another surprise. She wasn't wearing her underwear. Lovely. He kept his face neutral, and laid the clothing over the battery-powered heater he had made, before turning it on and tucking his hands int his pockets. When he looked at her, she was standing there awkwardly, as if she didn't know what to say. When her lips moved, he "listened" attentively and smiled a bit at her jacket comment. He was about to shake his head and say it was fine, when he saw the next sentence fly out of her mouth. He had been ignoring her. Fuck. He was so fucking stupid. He was pretty much her only reliable friend that wouldn't ditch her at lunch or run off with some other people... And he had done exactly that.

Sighing, he sat back down on his bed and ran his fingers through his hair, staring at the floor.
"I wouldn't take it personally... I've been ignoring everyone. At least I don't discriminate." He mumbled quietly, before glancing towards the heater, the little light was glowing, and he could see some of the clothes curling a bit from being warmed up so quickly. He let out a long sigh and looked up at her with a small, half-smile, lopsided to the right of his face, while he managed to speak loud enough for her to hear.
"For what it's worth, I'm really sorry. I kind of fucked shit up all around me without even leaving my room, so." He shrugged and stood up, walking over to her and standing quietly in front of her. Truth be told, he didn't know what she wanted him to say.

There wasn't really anything he could say. He had fucked up. Big time. Sleeping with his brothers ex girlfriend, ignoring his parents calls. Refusing to go to the dwd meetings. IT was all pointless bullshit. In the end, Noah would still be dead, and he'd still have to deal with it on his own, even if there were tons of people around to help him. Sure, he could win some stupid token to be able to talk to his brother in the underworld, but he wasn't too thrilled about having his twin scream at him about Audrey. It was all just fucked up, and he hadn't wanted to hurt anyone else, but apparently he had by not leaving his room, just as much as he would have by leaving his room.
"You can punch me in the face or something. To get even, I mean." He blinked down at her, tilting his head. "If I was left alone without a good explanation, I'd be a little pissed off too. So, if you want to yell at me, go ahead. I deserve it. I'm sorry, 'Lilah." He mumbled, running his hand to the back of his head to scratch at the nape of his neck. "Just don't warn me if you're going to punch me, 'cause then I'll reflex and send you through a wall." He chuckled quietly, though there was no real humour in his laughter.

why did he have to pick up her clothes? fucking eh. she'd left them there on purpose. he continued to place them on his electric heater, face not displaying any emotion as he turned back towards her. he said the whole "i wouldn't take it personally" part, making her oddly colored eyes go hard. "for what it's worth, i'm really sorry. i kind of fucked shit up all around me without even leaving my room, so." by then, her arms were folded and her lips were pressed together. for some reason, everything that he was saying was making her get increasingly irritated.

he walked over so that she had to look up, making delilah shift a bit straighter. so far, she'd been silent, unable to think up anything to say in response. "you can punch me in the face or something. to get even, i mean. if i was left alone without a good explanation, i'd be a little pissed off too. so, if you want to yell at me, go ahead. i deserve it. i'm sorry, 'lilah." his offer seemed pretty good at the moment, as she stared at his shadowed greenish bluish eyes and noticed his scruff. "so i suppose that means you lost your razor then, too?" actually, it looked good on him. that didn't mean she wouldn't make a bitchy, smart-ass comment about it, especially considering the fact that she was now classified as angry. sighing loudly, she rubbed her face and glanced down at the wooden floor.

clenching her right hand, without warning she snapped back her arm and simply did what he suggested; punched him in the face. and considering how much it hurt her hand, delilah could guess he was feeling plenty of pain in the facial region. "okay, we're somewhat even. though that was actually pretty fucking painful." she said, flexing her fingers and flinching. "anyway. apology accepted."

benjamin was in the process of opening his mouth to speak on behalf of his freshly grown stubble, when he felt her fist connect with his face, and the sickening crack of his jaw as it popped out, and back into place. his neck twisted with the movement, and he reached out with one arm, steadying himself on his chair so he wouldn't fall over. sighing loudly, he lifted his free hand to his lip and touched the swelling section, that was also bleeding, all down his chin.
"awesome." he mumbled sarcastically to himself and turned away from her, grabbing a piece of tissue paper to hold to his face, before turning back to her and blinking blankly at her face. he wasn't mad. and he didn't really feel like pounding her face in or anything, so she was in the clear for now. not that he'd ever really hit delilah. he'd probably break her, or something. and he definitely didn't want to do that. if anything, he wanted to tear her clothes off and ask her to hit him again.

but he wouldn't do that either.

he was such a pussy.

sighing, he wiped his lip clean over and over, while watching her carefully.
"glad we're even, then." he mumbled to her, taking in a deep breath. he tasted blood in his mouth and his stomach churned, producing an angry noise to emit from somewhere inside his throat. he groaned and tried not to bite his lip on instinct, before tossing the tissue into the garbage and grabbing a knew one. it wasn't his fault he had left delilah all alone. he had pretty much abandoned everyone. now he had to go around the school to all his friends and ask them to please, pretty please, punch his fucking face in for being a stupid idiot. yeah, that was going to be a real treat and a half.

with a weak smile, he ran his free hands fingers through his hair and sat down on his bed, patting the spot where she normally sat whenever she came over.
"you can sit down, it's not like i'll jump you or something." he looked at the tissue and frowned, before laughing a bit. "now i'm more terrified of what you can do to me." he rolled his eyes and tossed the tissue again, licking the swollen up part of his lip. it wasn't too bad, but it definitely felt really fucking weird. like someone was pumping it full of fluid and not letting any out, yet somehow, he was bleeding. wounds were weird. his mind started to wander to noah in his car, bleeding to death and not feeling a damn thing. he probably could have lived if he had someone to call 911 faster. benjamin frowned and stared at the ground, blinking. shit. was he crying? he wiped at his eyes and coughed, before wiping his bloody hands off on his pants.
"did you need something in particular?" he asked, looking over at delilah. his eyes were still leaking salty water that burned whenever it hit the cut on his lip, but he kept his voice even and offered a weak smile, head slightly tilted. "or was this just a visit to see how fucked up i am right now?" he laughed and wiped his eyes again, motioning around to his light-deprived room.

she watched in satisfaction as he turned away to grab a tissue to press to his swelling, bloody face; her smile was small though there, lopsided and tucked in like she was trying to hide it. "glad we're even, then." soon after he made an almost growl like noise and tossed the now scarlet soaked tissue and went for another. ben then sat down and patted the spot beside him and spoke, indicating delilah to take a seat. "you can sit down, it's not like i'll jump you or something." chuckling, she shrugged and grinned. "believe me, i'm far from being scared of you." sighing thickly, she sat cross-legged next to him and didn't think about how the t-shirt was now hiked up to mid thigh, showing the soft curve of her legs and porcelain skin under the amber light.

soon he'd obviously given up on the tissues, for he stopped grabbing for more after the second. he wiped his bloody hands on his pants and glanced over at her, showing slightly red rimmed eyes as he spoke steadily. "did you need something in particular? or was this just a visit to see how fucked up i am right now?" delilah wasn't really listening to him; instead she watched as salty tears fell from his eyes to his swelling lip, frowning slightly. she hadn't expected him to fucking cry over it. then again, she realized, he probably wasn't tearing up over the pain, though something mental. and what that something could be, she couldn't even begin to guess; who knew what went through that boys head?

sighing once again, she shifted her elbow to her knee, chin resting on her palm and fingers pressed to her mouth. "i came here to yell at you for being an asshole, that's my reason." delilah felt the urge to get another tissue and press it to his cut, though she refrained and continued to stare at him with her wide eyes. "you're crying, and i'm guessing that it's not over me punching you like a bad ass mother fucker i am." she chuckled, then tilted her head slightly. "so, what's wrong?"

smiling at her unpurposeful teasing, he reached over and tugged the shirt back down where it was safely tucked around her knee, rather than flashing all her lady parts.
"i think it's best if you didn't flash me your lady-parts while i'm like this, yeah?" he chuckled and wiped his eyes once more, before standing up and going to grab his tissue box. he blew his nose, and then got a fresh tissue, holding it to the ever-still-bleeding cut on his lip, before returning to her side, on his bed. he drew his legs up and sat campfire style, facing her head on. when he finally realized-when it finally clicked in his stupid little brain-that he was crying, he blinked and touched his face, before laughing when she pointed it out.

"oh, that? happens all the time these days. i never even notice anymore. makes going out into public a hell of a lot harder, though." he shrugged and looked at the tissue, sighing when he saw it was still soaked with blood.
"my best friend abuses me for leaving her to socialize with other people." he rolled his eyes and pressed the tissue back to his lip, before grinning at her. "you could have just come over earlier to talk, you know. you're such a drama queen." he flopped back onto his pillow and stared at the ceiling, where he had been painting... well, he wasn't sure what the painting was yet, but by the time he was finished, he was still pretty sure he would have no clue in sweet jesus what it was. at least it looked nice. his roommate seemed to like falling asleep to all the colours melding together, swirling around inside his eyelids when he finally fell asleep.

benjamin, on the other hand, found it easier to sleep during the daytime. though he really couldn't tell the difference. it was always night for him. but the whole nightmare thing only came when it was real night, so he slept through the day to minimize his chances of actually having nightmares about noah's dead body hanging out the back window of his car, sliced completely in half.

with a soft sigh, he tilted his head so he could see delilah, and blinked.
"it's almost valentine's, right?" he asked quietly. when she nodded, he sat up and rubbed at his peck, before shrugging. "we should go to that dance thing together or whatever. assuming no one's asked you already. unless you think it's stupid. you don't really seem like the type to go to dances." he paused, before rubbing his chin. "then again, i fucking suck ass at knowing what girls like to do other than sex, so." he shrugged. "wanna go?"

delilah chuckled as he tugged down the shirt, giving him a sarcastic look and tone to match. "couldn't keep your eyes off, eh? i wasn't even looking down there, personally." her voice held humor to show that she was joking, though she didn't completely get the "when i'm in this stage" part. so, in any other stage he'd been fine with it? making an almost "pfft" sound, she watched as he got up to get another tissue and sat down facing her cross-legged. he made the crying comment, and she shrugged. sure he didn't. his laughter about the subject was enough to somewhat convince her that he meant it, however.

"my best friend abuses me for leaving her to socialize with other people. you could have just come over earlier to talk, you know. you're such a drama queen." of course in response delilah shot him an irritated glare then shifted to face him as he flopped back on his pillow. 'you're just begging to get punched again, aren't you?" yawning, she once again ran a hand through her ruffled hair and rested her chin on both hands as she watched him. he asked her about valentine's day and she nodded a yes as he sat up. "as far as i'm aware, yeah." the mimic then went on about them possibly going together, and delilah blinked at him.

well, really, she didn't feel like going. or, at least, she hadn't thought she did - though now that ben was asking, the idea actually seemed a bit fun. letting out a pocket of air she'd been holding in her lungs, the nymph glanced down at the bed sheets then back up. "yeah. why not." then she comprehended his sex comment, and she blinked suspiciously; he was probably being a little fucker and sleeping around. what was the reason, again? oh, yeah, to drown out his deep dark sorrows with more and more sex. that seemed to be everyone's tactics, really; delilah was certainly far from a virgin, though she didn't run around offering herself out like a fucking hotel.

anyway, if he had been doing so, she wouldn’t of cared all too much. either way she wasn't jumping to conclusions about his sex life, and decided that she wouldn't ask. then she suddenly remembered a recent rumor she'd heard lately, then grinned. fuck not asking. "so audrey maddings, eh?" it was obvious by her voice that she wasn't upset. more like amused, than anything else. if he decided to spend his time fucking around with sluts...hey, more hiv for him.

sighing softly when she brought up audrey, he went through a relay of what else she had said, before deciding to answer a few of her previous questions first and foremost. what was the point of bringing audrey up? was she jealous or something? jesus, it's not like he was sleeping with every other girl in the school. he had slept with audrey once. maybe twice, if he could remember if she had come over while he was drunk last week-which he really couldn't for the life of him-so it really didn't matter. people got laid all the time. it wasn't a big deal. unless audrey had somehow now become a huge slut in the 6 weeks that noah had been dead, and fucked every guy in the school. he blinked and thought about it.
oh, fuck. his mind said to him for himself. jesus christ, what if he had some sort of disease now? jesus, jesus, jesus jumped up fucking christ.

"i need to make sure i have a tie that might match, or else i'll have to go buy one. i can't exactly go looking like a fucking idiot who doesn't know how to coordinate what i wear." he yawned and closed his eyes, flopping back onto his bed. he kind of wished she'd lay down next to him, but after all the sex talk, and him pretty much revealing he was a complete horny bastard at the moment... it seemed highly doubtful that she would even consider laying down. he didn't even know why she was still sitting there. though she was acting a little bit weird earlier, before he had asked her to punch him. his hand went to his lip to feel the blood clot that was forming, before dropping back to his side, playing with a loose thread on his PJ shorts.
